Debra Goldman, M.A, P.T., has specialized in orthopedic physical therapy for women and women's health since 1990. She has advanced training in the evaluation and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction and has presented numerous educational seminars on this topic for physicians, nurses and the general public.
After working in orthopedics and sports medicine clinics in New York City for 11 years, she opened a private practice in a New York-based freestanding birth center, working with pre-natal and post-partum women.
She earned her degree in physical therapy from Northwestern University Medical School Programs in Physical Therapy, a bachelor's degree in American studies from SUNY Buffalo, and her master's degree in human kinetics and education from George Washington University. In addition to having advanced post-graduate training in pelvic floor dysfunction, she has advanced post-graduate training in orthopedic manual therapy.
Goldman is also a certified practitioner of The Alexander Technique for women, a century-old mind-body modality, taught at places such as The Juilliard School and other performing arts institutions. While many actors, musicians and dancers find The Alexander Technique invaluable for honing body awareness, it also has great value for people with chronic neck, shoulder and back pain, and for woman dealing with pregnancy and pregnancy-related health issues. Goldman, a former modern dancer herself, became a certified instructor of The Alexander Technique in 1984, and is one of the few master teachers who specializes in The Alexander Technique for women in New Jersey and orthopedic physical therapy for women in New Jersey.
She is also a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, a member of the APTA Sections: Orthopedics; Women's Health and has received citations in Parents, New York Family and MediZine's Healthy Living magazines.
