Urogynecology and Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy in NJ

In my physical therapy practice, many women call seeking non-surgical solutions to pelvic organ prolapse, stress and urge incontinence which is leakage from the bladder and/or bowel dysfunctions and vaginal pain/sexual dysfunction.  In the past 10 years, a new subspecialty of physicians have embraced these specific pelvic floor problems and offer both non-surgical and surgical management.  These physicians are trained as ob-gyns and then study the urologic system specific to women.  Hence, the name, urogynecologist.

In my professional development as a pelvic floor physical therapy specialist, I had the opportunity to work side by side with a urogynecologist and learn firsthand the evaluation procedures, the diagnoses, the medications used and the surgical approaches.  What I quickly realized is that every woman benefited from a pelvic floor and orthopedic physical therapy approach.  The pelvic floor strengthening, stretching, neuromuscular retraining was critical but without looking at the spine, hip and trunk was limited in its longterm efficacy.

At Four Corners Physical Therapy, we offer a comprehensive and holistic approach to urogynecological pelvic floor physical therapy in New Jersey.   Please call us and let us help you recover and restore your pelvic health. 973-845-2592
